A sixty-second clip can give you a fact. It takes longer than that to give you an understanding.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Short explanations deliver conclusions without the structure underneath them, which is why you can watch a hundred of them and still not be able to do anything. Facts are portable and understanding is built, slowly, out of working through the parts that are not interesting enough to film. The feeling of having learned is not the same as having learned.

When something genuinely interests you, follow the short version with a long one: a book, a course, an afternoon of trying it. Accept the slower pace as the price of actually knowing. Keep the clips for finding out what is worth that time.
