Some books are meant to be walked through, not sprinted. Two pages that change you beat fifty that don’t.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Not all reading is the same activity. Some books are for information and can be taken at speed; others are doing something slower to you, and the speed of the pages has nothing to do with the speed of the work. Counting books finished is a poor measure, because the ones that change you are usually the ones you spent longest inside.
Give yourself permission to reread a paragraph three times and to stop at the end of a good chapter. Put the book down when something lands. Pages per hour is the wrong number to be tracking.
