Death makes status look temporary and character look permanent.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Confronted with the end of a life, the things people mention are rarely titles or achievements. They talk about how someone treated them, what they were like to be around, whether they were kind or honest or reliable. Status turns out to be a fairly temporary arrangement. Character is what people actually carry away.
Without being morbid about it, ask what would be said about how you treat people. Then choose one thing to be more careful about. Status takes constant maintenance and character mostly takes attention.
What are you chasing that would not matter at the very end?
