Pick one thing and go so deep that people start asking you about it. That’s where respect comes from.

Depth makes you findable in a way that general competence never does. Being reasonably good at many things leaves nobody with a reason to think of you specifically, while knowing one thing properly attaches your name to a subject in people’s heads. Respect tends to follow that, because it is easy to recognise and hard to fake.
Choose something narrow enough to actually finish and give it a year rather than a weekend. Write about it, or answer questions about it in public. The depth comes first and the asking follows, usually later than you expect.
What could you know so well that people come asking?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
