Sometimes restraint is judgment recognizing that available power is irrelevant power.

LEADERSHIP
Having the ability to act is not the same as that ability being relevant. You can win an argument that did not need winning, apply pressure where pressure will only harden things, use authority in a moment that called for patience. Power that does not fit the situation still functions; it just produces damage instead of results. Recognizing the mismatch and holding still is not weakness but accurate reading.
Before you use whatever power you have, ask what it will actually accomplish beyond demonstrating that you have it. If the honest answer is not much, put it down. The restraint tends to be noticed, and it keeps the power available for a moment where it will genuinely change something.
What could you win right now that would not be worth winning?
