Some friends are for a season. That doesn’t make the season fake.

Closeness that ends is often reread as closeness that was never real, which is unfair to both people. A friendship can be entirely genuine and still be held together by a shared situation: the same class, the same job, the same year of your life. When the situation goes, the thing loses its scaffolding, and that is a different event from betrayal.

If a friendship has quietly thinned, you are allowed to be sad about it without deciding it was false. Remember one specific good hour from it. Let it have been real and over at the same time.
