Your first car might rattle and smell like old fries. It’ll still be the one you talk about forever.

Attachment does not track quality. What makes something memorable is what it meant at the time: the first taste of being able to go somewhere without asking anyone, the freedom attached to a badly maintained machine. A better version later will be more comfortable and will not carry any of that.
Whatever your current version of that is, notice it while you have it rather than waiting for the upgrade. Take the bad photo. Keep the story. The things you will talk about in twenty years are rarely the ones that worked properly.
Which shabby thing from your life do you still love?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
