The crowd goes home in twenty minutes. Your character rides home with you.

Applause has a short shelf life, and so does the criticism that comes from the same seats. What stays is how you behaved to get the result, because you were present for all of it and nobody else was. That part travels into the next thing with you, whatever the score ended up saying.
After the next win or loss, give the reaction an hour and then ask a quieter question: did you play the way you want to play? Keep the answer honest even when the result was good. That question outlasts the crowd by decades.
What do you carry home after the crowd leaves?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
