Humble doesn’t mean small. You can lower your voice without folding yourself in half.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Modesty gets confused with self-erasure, though they are not the same practice. You can be genuinely uninterested in credit and still occupy your full space, state what you think, and let your work be seen. The shrinking version is usually discomfort with attention wearing a virtue’s clothes. Actual humility is accurate about yourself in both directions.

Notice where you downplay something true this week and state it flatly instead. No boasting required, and no speech. Being accurate about what you did is not arrogance, however unfamiliar it feels the first time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where do you shrink yourself and call it being humble?
