REFLECTION
The stories you tell yourself are persuasive because they were written by someone who knows exactly what you want to hear. There is no outside voice to catch the flaw, and believing it pays off instantly while the cost shows up later. Being clever offers no protection here, since it mostly produces better arguments.
Take one flattering belief about yourself and ask what evidence would count against it. Then ask a person who is fond of you but not impressed by you. The aim is not to be harsh, only to let something outside your head have a vote.
What are you currently selling yourself that you half believe?
