Some feelings become louder because they have been ignored, not because they are correct.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A feeling that has been repeatedly pushed aside does not go quiet; it escalates, because escalation is the only way it has of being heard. So the volume you eventually notice reflects how long it was ignored, not how accurate it is. Neglected small worries can arrive years later at a scale entirely out of proportion to their content.

When something suddenly feels enormous, ask how long it has been trying to get your attention. Give it a real hearing, which is what it wanted. Then, separately, assess the actual size of the concern. Attending to it usually turns the volume down enough for you to judge it fairly.
