Moving away shows you which friendships were based on location and which were based on you.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Proximity does much of the work in most friendships, and convenience is easy to mistake for closeness while you live in the same place. Distance removes the scaffolding and leaves only whatever each person is willing to actively maintain. What survives is not a judgment on anyone, only a different measurement.

If distance has thinned some friendships, let that be information rather than a wound you carry. Pick two people worth the effort and put a standing call in the calendar. And be generous about the ones that faded, since geography did most of that.
