Every skateboarder you admire has fallen a thousand more times than you’ve tried.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

You are comparing your total experience against someone else’s visible highlight, which is not the same unit. The falls happened in parking lots and empty evenings with nobody recording, and they are the actual content of the skill. The distance between you is made of attempts, which is the most encouraging thing about it.

Count your attempts rather than your results for the next month. Expect the ratio to be lopsided and keep going anyway. The only real difference between you and the person you admire is a number you are allowed to increase.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you attempt if falling in public stopped mattering?
