Weeds win the race to the top of the garden every year. Oaks win the century.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fast growth and durable growth are different strategies, and on any short timescale the fast one wins visibly. What makes it look conclusive is that you only ever observe a season at a time. The comparison only becomes meaningful over a length of time that nobody watching has the patience for.

Decide which one you are trying to be, because you cannot do both at once. If you are building something slow, stop measuring it against things designed for speed and set your checkpoints years apart. If you want the quick result, take it knowingly and expect it not to last.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose fast rise are you comparing your slow build to?
