A position in a line is a statement about timing and not about whether you will be served. The anxiety comes from reading the number as a measure of your chances, when it is only a measure of how long. Being far back is uncomfortable and it is not exclusion.

When you are waiting on something with a queue in front of you, get the two facts straight: is the line moving, and is there any reason to think it stops before you. If both answers are good, the number is just a number. Do something else while it advances.
