Half the shows people love got good in season two. Imagine quitting yourself after season one.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Early stretches are rarely representative. A first attempt is spent finding out what the thing actually is, and that work is visible and awkward and easy to mistake for the ceiling. Judging yourself on your opening season means judging a version that only existed while you were working out the shape of it.

Before you abandon something, ask whether you have given it long enough to become itself. Set a length rather than a mood as the exit condition. If it is still wrong at the end of that, leaving is a decision instead of a flinch.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you judging yourself on your worst season?
