A gap year isn’t a gap in you. It’s a pause in someone else’s schedule.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Time outside an institution reads as missing time only because the institution keeps the record. You were doing something during it, learning, working, resting, recovering, and none of that disappears because it does not appear on a standard track. The word for it describes a calendar rather than a person.
If you are off the expected path right now, write down what the time is actually being used for. Say it plainly when people ask, without apology in your voice. A year is short, and the schedule you stepped out of was never built around you anyway.
What did you learn during a year that looked empty?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
