The label on a message describes the sender’s state, not the actual timeline of the situation. Anyone can mark something critical, and the marking costs them nothing while buying your immediate attention, which is exactly why it gets used so freely. Real emergencies are rare and they usually look different from this.

Before reacting, ask what specifically happens if this waits four hours. Most of the time the honest answer is nothing at all. Save your fast response for the few things where the answer is something real.
