Being generous while running on fumes isn’t generosity. It’s a breakdown with good manners. Gas up first.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Giving from an empty tank has a cost that shows up later as resentment, exhaustion, or a sudden withdrawal that confuses everybody. The person receiving it usually cannot tell the difference at the time, which is why it keeps going. Kindness that depletes you is not more virtuous, only less sustainable.
Before you agree to help this week, check what you have left honestly rather than optimistically. If the answer is very little, say what you can actually do instead of the whole thing. A smaller offer you can keep is worth more than a large one that breaks.
Where are you giving from a tank already near empty?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
