Good music and good laughs don’t cancel out how they treat you when the fun stops.

A good time is real evidence about the good time and no evidence about anything else. What tells you who someone is shows up in the ordinary hours, when you need something, when they are tired, when there is nothing to gain. Charm is easy to supply and costs nothing, which is why it cannot be used as a measure.

Notice how you are treated when the room is empty, when plans become inconvenient, when you say no. That is the part to weigh. Enjoying someone’s company and trusting them are two separate decisions, and they do not have to arrive together.
