A quiet “nice job” muttered at the bathroom mirror counts. Applause doesn’t need a crowd to be real.

REFLECTION
Recognition does not require a witness to be real. A quiet acknowledgement of your own effort works on you in much the same way praise from someone else does, and unlike praise it is available at the moment you need it. Waiting for an audience means most of what you do goes unmarked entirely.
Say the plain thing to yourself when you have done something well. Not a speech, just a sentence, and preferably about the effort rather than the outcome. It will feel silly the first few times and then it will stop feeling silly, which is roughly when it starts working.
When did you last tell yourself you did well?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
