Most great ideas are born in a room with one person in it. The group comes later.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ideas usually need one head and some silence to get started. Groups are excellent at improving and testing things and poor at the first fragile stage, because a half-formed thought rarely survives being discussed before it can stand. Whoever speaks most tends to set the direction before anyone has thought properly.

Give your next idea a private stretch before you bring it to anybody. Get it far enough that you can say what it is in one sentence. Then take it to the group, where it will get the challenge it needs and will finally be sturdy enough to take it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you have an idea before anyone else weighed in?
