Pull away, refuel, come back better. The coming-back part is what keeps quiet time from turning into a cave.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Withdrawing is useful and it has a second half that is easy to skip. Time alone that feeds back into your life is rest, while time alone that keeps extending becomes a place to hide, and for the first week or so the two feel identical from the inside. The return is what separates them.

When you pull back, decide roughly when you are coming back and to what. Keep one thread to the outside running while you are gone, even a thin one. Rest is measured by what you can bring back, not by how long you stayed away.
