Wonder is intelligence remembering that explanation does not remove beauty.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

There is an old assumption that understanding ruins beauty, that once you know the mechanism the magic drains out. In practice the opposite is more common: knowing what is actually happening in a rainbow, a heartbeat, or a piece of music adds layers rather than removing them. What kills wonder is not explanation but the habit of assuming an explanation exists and never looking at it.

Take something you find beautiful and learn a little about how it works. Not enough to master it, just enough to see the machinery. Notice whether the beauty diminishes. It rarely does, and what you gain is the pleasure of seeing more of what was already there.
