Knowing how something works can deepen amazement instead of destroying it.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Detail is where the amazement usually lives. A person who knows what is going on inside a leaf, a storm, or an eye is not less impressed than someone who does not; they have more to be impressed by. Ignorance can preserve a vague sense of magic, but it is a thin one, and it cannot survive close attention the way real understanding can.

Pick one thing you find impressive and read about it properly for an hour. Follow whatever seems strangest. The usual result is that the thing becomes more remarkable rather than less, and that the hour leaves you wanting to look at something else the same way.
