The credits aren’t rolling. This is just a hard scene.

When something goes badly it presents itself as an ending rather than a passage. That is how difficulty works, it fills the whole frame and leaves no room for the idea that anything comes after. A bad stretch is one section of a much longer thing, and its weight now says nothing about how large it will look later.

You do not have to feel hopeful to keep going. Do the next ordinary thing, eat something, sleep, tell one person the truth about how it is. Getting through is enough work for this part.
