The benches in parks with little name plates were paid for by people who missed somebody. Be someone worth missing.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Somebody thought a person was worth marking in a place where strangers would sit, which is a quiet and fairly enormous thing to do. What earns that is almost never achievement. It is having been present, kind and specific with people over a long time, in a way that made the absence noticeable.

You cannot aim at being missed, and trying would be a strange way to live. What you can do is be genuinely present with a few people, consistently, over years. The rest follows without needing to be arranged.
