Wonder is the refusal to let repetition erase amazement completely.

Repetition is the great eroder. Anything seen daily gets its edges worn smooth, until a remarkable thing is processed as background. Wonder is not a special sensitivity that some people are given; it is mostly a refusal, a deliberate decision not to let the tenth or thousandth encounter with something count for less than the first.
Choose one thing you see every day and look at it properly, once, this week. The face of someone you live with, the walk to work, your own hands. The refusal has to be made repeatedly, because the erosion is continuous, and that is the whole practice.
