Watch who claps when your win makes them look good, and who goes quiet when it doesn’t.

Support that only appears when it reflects well on the supporter is not support, it is association. The test is a win that gives them nothing, or one that leaves them slightly behind, and the reaction to that is the honest one. Most people never notice the pattern because enthusiasm in the good case looks identical.

Next time something goes well for you, watch the first few responses without saying anything about them. Note who was glad in both kinds of case. Then spend more of your time on those people, quietly, without making an announcement about the rest.
