The friend who texts “home yet?” at midnight is doing more than it looks like.

A late check-in is a small act carrying a large message: someone was thinking about you after the evening ended, and your safety mattered enough to interrupt their own night. It is easy to read as fussing. It is actually one of the plainest forms of care available, and it costs the sender something, even if only attention.
Be that person for somebody this week. Send the short message when you would normally assume everything is fine. And when someone does it for you, thank them properly rather than replying with a thumbs up, because they will keep doing it if it lands.
Who checks that you got home safe?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
