Someone younger is copying the way you treat people. Give them something worth copying.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Someone younger is watching more closely than they let on. Cousins, siblings, teammates and juniors learn how to treat people by studying whoever is a few years ahead, and they absorb the offhand things rather than the advice. How you speak to a waiter or handle losing is the real curriculum. None of that asks you to be perfect, only to know you are being read.

Pick one behavior you would be content to see copied and be deliberate about it this week. Let them watch you apologize or admit you were wrong about something. That demonstration will outlast anything you tell them.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which younger person is learning manners from watching you?
