Be wary of people who keep testing your loyalty but never let you see theirs.

Tests that run in one direction are not tests, they are management. Someone who keeps checking whether you will stay, defend, choose them or prove yourself, while never submitting to the same examination, has arranged things so that you are permanently auditioning. The asymmetry is the point even when nobody plans it. Trust that only travels one way is not trust.

Notice the moments when you are being asked to prove something again. Ask when they last did anything that cost them on your behalf. You are allowed to stop answering a question that never comes back to you.
