Damage does not always mean the end of something. A relationship can carry a crack and still work, provided both people know it is there and handle it accordingly, which usually means putting less weight on that one spot. Pretending it healed completely is what causes the next break. Honest caution is not the same as bitterness.

Decide what this friendship can still hold and what it cannot hold yet. Keep the parts that work rather than discarding everything over one fracture. Let time and behavior decide whether the weight can go back on.
