Everyone in the stands agreeing doesn’t make the call right.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Agreement is not evidence. A crowd can be unanimous and wrong at the same time, particularly when everyone is watching everyone else for a cue, and the volume of a consensus says nothing about whether it matches what happened. Numbers persuade because they are easy. Accuracy is a separate matter.
When a room agrees quickly, ask what the evidence is rather than how many people hold the view. Be willing to be the one who checks. When you find yourself certain along with everybody else, treat that as the moment to look twice.
When did a crowd’s certainty change your mind too easily?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
