Friendships rarely end with one villain. Find your fingerprints on it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Most endings are made of two people drifting, missing things and protecting themselves, rather than one person doing something terrible. That is not true of every case, and where somebody was genuinely harmed the arithmetic is different and this does not apply. In the ordinary kind, a single-villain story is comfortable, slightly false, and leaves you nothing to learn.

Look for the small pieces that were yours. The reply you never sent, the thing you let slide. Knowing them requires no reaching out, and it does change how the next friendship goes.
