Resilience isn’t swallowing everything. Sometimes it’s saying “this isn’t okay” and changing your situation.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Endurance gets mistaken for the whole of toughness, which leaves exactly one available response to anything bad: take more of it. Some situations are not endurance problems. They are problems that need naming and leaving, and staying put in them is not strength, only a longer stay. Working out which kind you are in is the real skill, and it takes more honesty than gritting your teeth does.

Ask of the hard thing in front of you whether more patience is genuinely what it needs. If the honest answer is no, work out the smallest real change and who could help you make it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are you enduring that you could change instead?
