Getting dumped feels like losing a future. You only lost one version of it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Part of what hurts is that you were not only with a person, you were living inside a set of imagined years with them in it. When it ends, that imagined future goes too, and losing it is real even though it never actually existed. What is gone is one possible version. The years themselves are still there, unwritten, which is impossible to feel in the first few weeks.

Be careful about the plans you cancel over the next couple of weeks, because the version of you deciding right now is not at full strength. Keep the ones that were yours anyway.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which imagined future did an ending take from you?
