You can quit a thing and not be a quitter. Knowing the difference takes honesty.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Stopping something is a single decision and a pattern of stopping is a habit, and the two get talked about as though they were the same thing. The honest test is whether you are leaving because it is finished for you or because it has just got hard. Only you have access to that answer, which is why this takes honesty rather than advice. Both answers are respectable; only one is true.

Before you stop, ask whether you would still want to leave if this week had gone well. If no, give it a fixed stretch of real effort and ask again afterwards.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you leave if nobody called you a quitter?
