A rejection email takes ten seconds to read and a week to stop hearing. Give it the week, then move.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The gap between how long bad news takes to arrive and how long it takes to leave is one of the odder things about being a person. A week of replaying it is not weakness, it is processing running at its own speed. What does damage is expecting it to be over by the afternoon and treating the lingering as a second failure.

Let yourself feel it for a defined stretch rather than pretending it is fine, then give it a deadline: by Monday the thing goes in a drawer. Send one more application before the week is out. Movement is what finally turns the volume down.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which rejection are you still rereading days after it arrived?
