Don’t just chase the title. Chase the skill the title is supposed to prove.

LEADERSHIP
Titles are shorthand, and they work only as long as they refer to something real. Captain, manager, first chair, honours: each is meant to summarise an ability, and it is possible to collect the label without the thing it stands for. That gap turns up eventually, usually at the worst moment, and it is uncomfortable because everybody assumed the ability was there.
Name the skill behind the title you want and work on that as if the title did not exist. Ask somebody who holds it what they had to be able to do. The title tends to arrive anyway, and if it does not you still have the skill.
Which title do you want more than the ability behind it?
