You don’t need a huge audience for your work to matter. Ten people who rely on it is plenty.

Scale is the measure most available and one of the least meaningful. Something genuinely used by ten people is doing more in the world than something glanced at by thousands, and the ten will tell you things that make it better. Chasing size early usually means making the thing worse for the people who actually want it. Depth is available immediately and size may never be.

Find out who already uses what you make, however small the number, and ask what they would miss if it stopped. Build the next version for them specifically. Let growth be a side effect rather than the target.
