Getting the job is the start line, not the finish line. Plenty of people stop running at “hired.”

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

The effort involved in getting selected is large enough that it feels like the achievement, and then the thing you were selected for begins. Plenty of people slow down at exactly that point, having treated the offer as the goal. The first months are when you learn fastest and are watched most closely. Arriving is the cheapest part of the process.

Set yourself something to accomplish in your first month that has nothing to do with being hired: a skill learned, a system understood, one person you have become genuinely useful to. Write it down on day one and review it at the end.
