Some goals are too far to see from where you stand. Aim at the next floor, not the roof.

LEADERSHIP
Distant goals stop being usable because you cannot see a route to them from where you are, and a goal with no visible next step turns into a mood rather than a plan. The roof is still where you are headed. It is just not something you can act on today, whereas the next floor is. Breaking it up is not lowering your ambition, it is making it operable.
Take the large thing you want and name the single next floor: the course, the audition, the conversation, the first hundred dollars. Put a date on that one and ignore the roof until you are standing on it.
What is your next floor up, instead of the distant roof?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
