Fame is renting attention. Skill is owning something.

Attention has to be paid for continuously. Staying known requires a steady supply of novelty, and the moment you stop producing it the attention moves elsewhere, so the arrangement never finishes and nothing accumulates. Ability behaves differently, because what you can do stays done and is still there after a year of silence. One needs feeding and the other does not.
Which is a reason to spend your effort where it accrues. Before chasing visibility for something, ask what you would be left holding if nobody looked for a year. If the answer is nothing much, build the other half first.
Do you own a skill, or only rent people’s attention?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
