The audition you didn’t get still taught you the room. Next year you won’t be walking in for the first time.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Part of what beats you the first time is unfamiliarity: the corridor, the panel, how the waiting works, what your hands do while you stand there. None of that is talent and all of it is learnable, and it can only be learned by being in the room. An unsuccessful attempt converts a frightening unknown into a known quantity. The next one starts from somewhere different even if nothing else changed.

Write down what surprised you about the room while it is fresh. The timing, the order, what you wish you had brought. Then book the next one sooner than feels comfortable.
