You’ll get further asking “what would make this better?” than “how do I look?”

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Those two questions point your attention in opposite directions. One sends you into the work, where there is something to fix and something to learn. The other sends you back to yourself, where there is only reassurance to collect, and reassurance does not improve anything. Over a year the gap between those two habits is enormous.

Catch yourself before you hand something in or step on the court and notice which question you are asking. Swap it deliberately, then ask one person what would make the thing better and do the first thing they say.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you asking how to improve the work or how you appear?
