Some people inherit a head start. You might inherit a work ethic instead. That’s not nothing.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Head starts are real and unevenly handed out, and pretending otherwise is no comfort to anyone. What you were given instead is less convertible and not worthless: watching people work when it was hard taught you something money cannot transfer. It will not close every gap, and it is a genuine asset rather than a consolation prize.

Name what you actually did get from the people who raised you, in plain terms. Then use it deliberately rather than only out of habit. Where the gap is money or contacts, ask for help early, because people with head starts do that constantly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What habit did you inherit that no head start could buy?
