Some choices look small only because the consequence is far away. Distance isn’t size.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Time flattens how big something looks. A decision whose effect arrives in five years registers as minor today, which is why the loan, the dropped subject and the skipped year of saving all feel like nothing at the moment of choosing. The size does not change while it travels. Only your view of it does.

When something feels low stakes, ask what it looks like in five years if you keep doing it. Repetition is usually what converts a small thing into a large one. If the five-year version is bad, treat today’s version as the same size, because it is.
