The first job you take after school isn’t a life sentence. It’s the first chapter you get paid for.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

First jobs are a beginning that people mistake for a verdict. Nothing about the one you take at nineteen determines the shape of your working life, and most people’s first job has little to do with what they end up doing. What it gives you is money, a reference and a better sense of what you want next.

Take something decent and give it a year before you judge it. Learn whatever the place can teach you, including from people whose jobs you do not want. Then move when you have something to move with, rather than waiting to be rescued.
