Paying for your own mistake teaches more than having someone else cover it.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Consequences are the part that does the teaching. When somebody else quietly absorbs the cost, the lesson stays abstract and the same mistake stays available, because nothing about your situation actually changed. Paying for it yourself attaches the memory to something real, which is why you only break the window once.
Next time you break, lose or forget something, offer to cover it before anyone asks. If you genuinely cannot, arrange to pay it back in parts rather than letting it be waved away. Taking help is fine, and knowing what it cost somebody is the part worth keeping.
